Imran Khan will finally make a public appearance after nearly a three-month hiatus following his arrest and subsequent detention in a state secrets leakage case. A Pakistani court has summoned Imran Khan to appear for trial on November 28.

Khan is currently detained in Rawalpindi's Adiala jail, alongside Pakistan's former external affairs minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, in connection with the state's secrets case.

Khan’s lawyer speaks

  • Khan’s lawyer, Naeem Panjutha, shared information about the court’s order on his former Twitter account

  • “The court has ordered Imran Khan's appearance on November 28. Now, we must ensure this order is executed,” stated Panjutha.

  • On August 5, Khan was sentenced to three years in jail for violating Pakistan's Official Secrets Act, right after being cleared in the Toshakhana case. He was arrested and jailed along with another Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

  • Although the Pakistan caretaker government had approved the in-jail trial of both Khan and Qureshi, the Islamabad High Court declared the charges null and void during the jail trial. Subsequently, the court ordered a public trial for Khan and Qureshi in the cipher case, scheduled to commence on November 28, 2023.
