Modi,Yogi's new Rastrawaad Shaheen Bagh shooter Kapil Gujjar inducted into BJP; removed hours later following public outrage Featured

  30 December 2020

Gujjar had reached Shaheen Bagh area on February 1 and fired two rounds in the air. At the time, BJP had alleged he was an AAP member, and attacked the party as ‘a sympathiser of terrorists’.

Kapil Gujjar, the man who had shot to limelight for opening fire near the anti-CAA protests site in Shaheen Bagh in February, was formally inducted into the BJP in Ghaziabad on Wednesday.

Videos of the induction ceremony were circulating on Twitter:

After taking the political plunge, Gurjar said that he decided to join the BJP because the party works for Hindutva, as per a report carried by India Today.

Gujjar had reached Shaheen Bagh area on February 1 and fired two rounds in the air, following which he was taken into custody by Delhi Police. Gujjar had attributed his act to annoyance with the traffic disruptions caused by the protests.

At the time, he was described as a worker of Delhi’s Aam Aadmi Party. A senior officer of the Delhi Police Crime Branch had said that his team had stumbled upon some photos from Gujjar’s phone that proved his connection with the AAP, claiming that Gujjar and his father had joined AAP the previous year.

Following this, the BJP had attacked the AAP, calling it as a sympathiser of terrorists. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar had said, “AAP is completely exposed in front of people of Delhi. The shooter of Shaheen Bagh has turned out to be an AAP member. He had joined AAP with his father a year ago. AAP leader Sanjay Singh had welcomed him. There are photos to prove this.”

Both AAP and Gujjar’s family had, however, refuted the claim. The family at the time told media that Gujjar's father had contested MCD polls in 2012 on a BSP ticket and lost, but they have never been associated with AAP.

Meanwhile, NDTV reported that Gujjar had been removed from the BJP hours after he was inducted. The BJP unit in Ghaziabad claimed they did not know of his antecedents when he joined the party on Wednesday morning. The development had triggered a huge public outrage on social media.
