Topple ‘anti-farmer’ Khattar govt in Haryana, Samyukta Kisan Morcha appeals ahead of no-confidence motion Featured

  07 March 2021

‘The no-confidence motion will let people know which MLA stands with govt and which MLA stands with farmers,’ senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda had said while moving the motion.

Three days before the Manohar Lal Kahattar government in Haryana faces a no-confidence motion in Haryana assembly moved by the Congress, Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), the apex decision-making body of farmers’ unions, appealed to the people and MLAs of the state to topple the ‘anti-farmer’ government.

Senior Congress leader and leader of the Opposition in Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda after moving the no-confidence motion, scheduled for March 10, had said, “The no-confidence motion will let people know which MLA stands with the government and which MLA stands with farmers.”

Appealing to people to reach out to the MLAs of all political parties with letters urging them to vote ‘in favour of farmers’, farmers’ leader Darshanpal Singh said that the BJP-JJP government has tried to divide and malign farmers who have been protesting for over 100 days at Delhi’s borders.

The time has come that people of Haryana along with farmers should go to the houses of MLAs belonging to the BJP-JJP and ask them to vote in favour of no-confidence motion…so that a lesson can be taught to the Khattar government...So that people of Haryana can show that they are with the farmers of the country and the government which is trying to suppress the farm agitation is taught a lesson. They will play a role in toppling such an anti-farmer government,” he said.

As per sources, many MLAs in deputy CM Dushyant Chautala’s party JJP are in favour of repealing of the farm laws. However, they have not revolted openly till now.Currently, the Assembly has 40 MLAs of the BJP, 10 of JJP, 30 of the Congress and 7 Independents, two of whom had earlier withdrawn their support to the Khattar government. The BJP-JJP coalition government enjoys a comfortable majority in the 90-member Assembly, which currently has an effective strength of 88 MLAs as the Kalka seat was declared vacant after disqualification of a Congress legislator following his conviction by a court in Himachal Pradesh in a decade-old case. The Ellenabad constituency, which was represented by the INLD’s lone legislator Abhay Singh Chautala, fell vacant after his resignation from the Assembly over the farmers’ agitation.
