Mr Trump Jr’s concerns were leaked to The Times by unnamed campaign officials and a conservative activist who claims they have regular contact with the president’s son.
The activist told the times that Mr Trump Jr is the “only person who thinks they’re going to lose. He’s like, ‘we’re losing dude, and we’re going to get really hurt when we lose”.
According to the report, Mr Trump Jr’s concerns are rooted in an ongoing investigation into the Trump Organisation by the New York Attorney General. He reportedly fears that, following a loss in the 2020 US election, the prosecutors will try to charge Donald Trump and his children as part of the investigation.
Mr Trump Jr also apparently fears that a “peaceful transition” of power between the Trump administration and an incoming Joe Biden administration will not happen, and fears Mr Biden’s administration plans to “shoot the prisoners”.
Andy Surabian, a spokesman for Mr Trump Jr, said the story was “100 per cent false” and insisted “Don does not have these concerns”.
Assuming the report is accurate, Mr Trump Jr is not the only member of the family to speak ill of the presidential patriarch.
A former adviser to First Lady Melania Trump is writing a book about her time in the White House, and claims she has recordings of Ms Trump making disparaging remarks about her husband and her husband’s children.
Stephanie Winston Wolkoff will release a book in September detailing her involvement with the first lady and the ultimate dissolution of their friendship.
Journalist Yashar Ali reported that Ms Wolkoff apparently has recordings of the first lady making the critical comments.
Mr Ali claims that most of the disparaging comments “were reserved for Ivanka Trump”.
The Washington Post reported that Mr Trump’s niece Mary Trump – also the author of a book about the dysfunction in the president’s family – said she possesses recordings of the president’s sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, making disparaging remarks about her brother.
“All he wants to do is appeal to his base,” Ms Barry said. “He has no principles. None. None. And his base, I mean my God, if you were a religious person, you want to help people. Not do this.”
She went on to accuse her brother of lying and poor preparation for the responsibilities of the presidency.
“His goddamned tweet and lying, oh my God,” she said. “I’m talking too freely, but you know. The change of stories.
