'As Guilty As BJP': Farmer's Cold Shoulder To Congress As Rahul Meets Kisan Unions In Chhattisgarh Featured

  13 February 2024

As Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is having a meet with the farmers’ unions in Ambikapur, Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee General Secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher on Tuesday slammed the grand old party and stated that "we consider Congress equally responsible as much as the BJP," news agency ANI reported.

Speaking with media, Pandher stated: "Congress party does not support us, we consider Congress equally responsible as much as the BJP. These laws were brought by Congress itself. We are not in favour of anyone, we raise the voice of farmers."

On the other hand, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh slammed PM Modi's government for not allowing farmers to enter national capital. "Today farmers from Punjab, Haryana and UP will march towards Delhi while PM Modi's govt is trying to stop them from entering the national capital. This is very unfortunate," he stated.

Farmers have begun their march towards Delhi, months before the Lok Sabha elections, after discussions with the Centre fell down late Monday night. Farmers are asking, among other things, a legislation ensuring a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, pensions and debt relief, and compensation for the relatives of farmers killed in the 2020-21 demonstrations.

Farmers from Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh are marching towards Delhi under the leadership of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, despite strict border security. Authorities have implemented Section 144 and internet shutdowns in several places, as well as barricaded main roadways with concrete blocks, iron nails, and barbed wire.
