Legendary Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin has become a Minister in Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s cabinet. Governor Jishnu Dev Verma administered the oath of office to Azhar at Raj Bhavan.

With the induction of the former India captain, the strength of the cabinet has risen to 16, and there is a place for two more ministers. Azhar, who has been associated with Congress for a long time, will play a key role in the Jubilee Hills by-poll.

However, Azharuddin refuted the stories that his appointment was due to the upcoming by-election. “I want to thank the high command of the party and my supporters. My appointment is unrelated to the by-election. Two separate matters shouldn’t be linked,” he said.

“I will work for the people, and I am ready to take the responsibility. G. Kishan Reddy can say what he wants to, and I don’t need a patriotism certificate from anyone,” he added.

BJP called it a “political appeasement” and accused the Congress of trying to strengthen its position among the Muslims in Jubilee Hills.
