Yogi invents Ayurveda cure for Covid-19? Featured

  24 जून 2020

Indian yoga guru Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved on Tuesday launched an ayurvedic medicine claimed to be able to cure Covid-19 after consumption within seven days.

The Express Tribune found the claim to be misleading as there is no scientific evidence to back it up.Coronil, Swasari and Anu Tel, which were manufacted by Haridwar-based Divya Pharmacy and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, are advertised to give “100 per cent favourable results”.

So far, the results of a 100 clinical trials of the medicine carried out by India’s Patanjali Research Institute and the Jaipur-based National Institute of Medical Sciences have not been released to the public.

The firm said that Coronil is made of the extracts of pure Giloy, Tulsi and Ashwagandha. While Shwasari supposedly works on strengthening the respiratory system and cures the obvious symptoms of coronavirus including cough, cold and fever.Similarly, Anu Tel is a nasal drop that helps build immunity.

However,Khwaja Siddiqui, a Pakistani-American doctor at Houston’s Baylor College of Medicine, said that no medicine has been proven to cure Covid-19 so far.

“Some patients choose to self medicate and use herbal treatment to try to boost immunity…but this in no way can rid you of the virus,” he added.

The World Health Organization (WHO) cautions against physicians and medical associations recommending or administering unproven treatments to patients with COVID-19 or people self-medicating with them until there is sufficient evidence.

WHO released the statement after reports surfaced that individuals were self-medicating with chloroquine, a medication primarily used to prevent and treat malaria, causing harm.
