The remarks were made in a video call with members of the Palestinian community in the UAE, the official WAM news agency reports.“I assure you anew that these unshakable bonds between the UAE and the Palestinians will remain solid and will never change,” bin Zayed said.
“UAE’s stance will remain supportive of the Arab stand calling for establishing an independent Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital,” he added.Sheikh bin Zayed defended the decision to normalize ties with Israel, which prompted outrage among Palestinian factions in the West Bank and Gaza, as a “strategic necessity for the region.”
The normalization, however, “will not come at the expense of our support for the Palestinian cause,” he asserted. On Monday, the first direct commercial flight between Tel Aviv and Abu Dhabi landed in the UAE, with high-profile Israeli and US delegations arriving in the country for talks on the upcoming normalisation.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also announced that he had invited a UAE delegation to visit Israel as well.
