CPI(M) youth wing holds massive rally in Kolkata, targets 'corrupt' Trinamool Featured

  08 जनवरी 2024

In the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections this year, the CPI(M) youth wing held a grand rally at Kolkata's Brigade Parade Ground on Sunday. At the event named 'Insaaf Brigade', leaders demanded justice for oppressed communities in the state.

'Insaaf Brigade' marked the culmination of the CPI(M)'s youth wing Democratic Youth Federation of India's (DYFI) 'Insaaf Yatra'. The yatra was two-month-long march that began in November from Cooch Behar and concluded in late December in Jadavpur.

The official Twitter account of DYFI highlighted the purpose of the 'Insaaf Brigade,' emphasising the need for jobs and seeking redress for migrant labourers, unemployed teachers, and other oppressed communities in the state.

Minakshi Mukherjee, the DYFI state secretary and a notable figure in the Left Front since her candidacy in the 2021 assembly elections, expressed disappointment with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

She pointed out that despite promises of better times, the situation in West Bengal deteriorated under their governance.

CPI(M) state general secretary Md Salim launched an attack against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, accusing them of engaging in corrupt practices.

Salim, in a message to TMC workers and government officials, said that Mamata Banerjee's primary concern was to protect her family, particularly her nephew, who he alleged was involved in corruption.

He questioned whether Banerjee would be as protective of her party workers and officials as she is of her family.

In a strategic move ahead of the 2024 general elections, the CPI(M) delegated the responsibility of organising the Brigade rally to its youth wing, a departure from previous years when the senior party leadership took charge.
