India named three replacements to the existing India squad for the second Test match. The Indian side handed maiden call-up for Sarfaraz Khan, who has been toiling in the Ranji Trophy for several years. In fact there was a furore over not giving Sarfaraz a call-up despite him doing sensationally well in the last three years.
India also brought in Bihar spinner Sourabh Kumar and dependable all-rounder Washington Sundar.

In India A's recent tour match against England Lions, Sarfaraz hit a stunning 161 in the only innings that India A batted in. Sarfaraz earned the player of the match award and helped India A win the tour game by an innings and 16 runs. There has been much debate about the batter's exclusion from the Test team and the relevance of Ranji Trophy in India's squad selection. The selection of the batter and spinner Sourabh Kumar in the 2nd Test match by reduce that noise for the moment.
