Arunachal Pradesh: 5 Villagers Abducted by PLA, Families Say Featured

  05 September 2020

New Delhi: Even as India and China are engaged at a diplomatic level to sort out the escalated border dispute between the two countries, five villagers from the Upper Subansiri district

of Arunachal Pradesh were ‘abducted’ by the Chinese army on September 4, triggering panic among the local population, according to an Arunachal Times report.

The report said the five persons were picked up by a team of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) when they were inside a jungle, hunting.

“Two other villagers who had accompanied the abducted persons and managed to escape narrated the incident before the public. However, the relatives have not yet made any communication with the Indian Army regarding the incident,” the report said. The five villagers have been identified as Toch Singkam, Prasat Ringling, Dongtu Ebiya, Tanu Baker and Ngaru Diri. All of them belong to the Tagin tribe.

Later, a PTI report quoting a senior district police official said the police are looking into the matter based on the complaint of the family members. “I have sent the police officer in charge of Nacho police station to the area to verify the facts and directed him to report immediately. However, the report will be available only by Sunday morning,” superintendent of police Taru Gussar said.

In March, a 21-year-old man was reportedly abducted by a PLA team from near the McMahan line passing by the Asapila sector while two others managed to escape. He was released from custody after 19 days. The state government has not yet issued an official statement on the matter yet.
