Justice Shampa Sarkar directed that Banerjee's election petition will be taken up for hearing on August 12.
A bench headed by Chief Justice N.V, Ramana asked the Centre, which is repealing stale laws, as to why it was not getting rid of this provision.
"They cannot be called farmers. I can say those who attacked looked like addicts...," the deputy speaker Ranbir Gangwa said.
The petition said the offence of sedition is vague and it fails to define criminal offence with sufficient definiteness. Moreover, terms like 'contempt', 'hatred' and 'disaffection' used in section 124A are overbroad.
