In a major organisational reshuffle, the Congress party on Friday inducted head of its media cell, Randeep Surjewala into a six-member panel that advises the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi. 

Senior Congress leader leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury who is already leader of the Congress party in Lok Sabha, has been appointed as the chief of West Bengal Congress. With the new responsibility, Chowdhury would be holding two crucial posts, which is not very common in the grand old party.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who had written a letter demanding a complete overhaul of the organisation, has been removed from his position as general secretary. Azad, who was in charge of Haryana, has been replaced by Vivek Bansal.

Apart from Azad, Ambika Soni, Motilal Vora and Mallikarjun Kharge have also been removed from their posts as AICC general secretaries.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will continue to be in charge of Uttar Pradesh, while Manickam Tagore will be the new general secretary in-charge for Telangana.

Jitin Prasad has received a promotion and has been appointed as general secretary in-charge for West Bengal, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

In other changes, Pawan Kumar Bansal will be in charge of administration, Harish Rawat will be general secretary in-charge for Punjab, Tariq Anwar will be in-charge for Kerala and Lakshadweep, Jitendra Singh would be in-charge for Assam, and Oommen Chandy will be in-charge for Andhra Pradesh.

Former MP chief minister Digvijay Singh, Rajiv Shukla, Manickam Tagore, Pramod Tiwari, Jairam Ramesh, HK Patil, Salman Khurshid, Pawan Bansal, Dinesh Gundurao, Manish Chatrath and Kuljit Nagra have been appointed as members of the Congress Working Committee.
