on the last leg of his two-day Punjab tour.On the last leg of his two-day Punjab tour before entering Haryana where he is scheduled to lead a tractor rally to protest against the recently-enacted farm laws, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi launched a stinging attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government over several issues ranging from APMC Act to Chinese aggression in Ladakh.

Stating that Modi government has destroyed the entire system of food security system in the country, Rahul Gandhi said, “Like he (Modi) finished small shopkeepers and small-medium businesses with GST (Goods and Services Tax) and demonetisation, he is finishing farmers and labourers the same way and slashing your throats with these three laws” .

Addressing a press conference in Patiala, Rahul Gandhi warned that “ this country will not be able to provide employment to its youths in the coming times because Modi ji has ruined the system of employment generation...and now people will not get food (due to the farm laws). He questioned the narrative propagated by the Modi government. “If farmers are getting benefits, as the Centre is claiming, why was there no discussion in the Parliament for the same?” he said.

Clearing Congress’ stand over the APMC system, he said, “We never wanted the destruction of the entire food security system, which is exactly what the Narendra Modi government has done...We had clearly written in the manifesto that we will strengthen the food security framework. If there are loopholes in the current system, it will be rectified. But we will not break the system like Modiji.”

He further explained that the Congress manifesto aimed at developing the agriculture system and improving its infrastructure. “This would have included developing markets for farmers and developing a mandi every 4 kms instead of every 40 km,” he said.

“Any attempt by the Modi Govt to attack the soul of India - our farmers, our labourers - will be foiled because Congress and India stand united against them,” said Rahul during the conference in response to a question.

Questioning PM Modi’s silence over the Hathras gang-rape, Rahul Gandhi said a tragedy had unfolded. “A lovely girl was assaulted, her neck was broken, she died, but the PM did not utter a single word,” he said.

“The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh should have the decency to say that I will protect the girl,” said Rahul about UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s claim that there was an international conspiracy behind Hathras issue.

Hitting out at the Modi government for the Chinese ingress in Ladakh and PM Modi’s silence over the issue, Rahul said, “12000 square km of land belonging to Bharat Mata has been given away to China and China knows that Modi is obsessed with his image...He does not think about India but his image ”.

In response to a question about the weak Opposition compared to the ruling party, Rahul asserted that the ‘entire architecture’ has been captured. “Complete capture of the soul of the country has been done forcibly ...Give me a free system, a free press...The Modi government will not last more than six months,” said Rahul.

On the allegation of “political tourism” levelled by the ruling party, the Wayanad MP said that PM Modi spent one billion dollars of public money on buying a special plane for himself. “Why? Because his friend US President Donlad Trump has the same kind of special plane,” he said.
