We want to turn Pakistan into global power: Imran KHan Featured

ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Imran Khan has said his government is striving at creating a self-reliant Pakistan that would emerge as a global power.

“There is a dire need to enhance skills of our younger generation to capitalise on their immense potential in information and communications technology (ICT),” said the prime minister on Wednesday.

“We want to turn Pakistan into a country that may emerge as a global power. We want to turn Pakistan into a country that is self-reliant,” he added.

Imran Khan was chairing the final session of a national seminar – Resetting & Rebooting Pakistan’s ICT Sector – organized by the National Defence University (NDU).

Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and NDU President Lt-Gen Muhammad Saeed were also present on the occasion.

The prime minister said the ICT sector has great potential for employment generation and revenue, adding that it will be “critical to Pakistan's success in the future”.

The prime minister assured full facilitation to the ICT stakeholders for providing an enabling and supportive regulatory environment from the government. He also appreciated the NDU for arranging the seminar.

Prominent ICT experts from Pakistan and abroad, industrial representatives, and senior military and civil officers attended the seminar. The director general of the NDU’s Institute for Strategic Studies, Research and Analysis presented the recommendations of the seminar.
