Biopics in Indian cinema struck a chord with the audience as they get to experience the life of some famous and some powerful personalities, who may or may not have been in the public eye. Directors and actors go all out to look similar to that person on-screen.

We decided to take a look at some of best biopics we’ve seen in Bollywood and compare the real life personality to their on-screen persona. 

Shakuntala Devi and Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan plays the math genius Shakuntala Devi in a new biopic. She has been nicknamed 'Human Computer' because of her extraordinary talent and skill in solving complex mathematical problems without any mechanical aid.
 

Sushant Singh Rajput and Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Late actor Sushant played the India's favourite Captain Cool in 'M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story', which traces his journey from ticket collector to trophy collector - the world-cup-winning captain of the Indian Cricket Team.
 

Farhan Akhtar and Milkha Singh

Farhan Akhtar had to train very hard to portray the mighty Milkha Singh in 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag'. Fun fact: Athlete Milkha Singh, on whose life the film is based, charged Rs 1 only for his contribution to the film. 'Shahid' is based on the life of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi, who was assassinated in 2010. In preparing for the role, Rajkumar Rao met Azmi's family and spent time with them to understand the man and his personality. Rajkumar won Best Actor Award at the 61st National Film Awards.

Diljit Dosanjh does a great job at portraying the life and triumphs of acre hockey player Sandeep Singh, who is also an Arjuna award winner. He hockey star made a comeback to Indian hockey team after being wheelchair bound when he had suffered a accidental bullet injury while on his way to 2006 world cup.

Aamir Khan plays former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat in the box office hit 'Dangal', who trains his daughters to win the Commonwealth Games. Did you know, after gaining 28 kgs. for the initial shoot, Aamir Khan lost 25 kgs. in 20 weeks to portray the younger character of Mahavir Singh Phogat.
 

Sanya Malhotra and Babita Kumari

Sanya Malhotra plays Mahavir Singh Phogat's youngest daughter Babita Kumari, who won a gold medal in 2014 Commonwealth Games.
 

Fatima Sana Sheik and Geeta Phogat
