Three times when Rahul Gandhi predicted Modi govt will repeal farm laws; his “Mark my words” tweet goes viral Featured

  19 November 2021

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday tweeted an old clip in which he said “Mark my words, govt will have to take back anti-farm laws” after PM Modi announced that the farm laws will be repealed.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has been consistent in his belief that the Modi government will sooner or later be forced to withdraw the three farm laws, tweeted an old clip of his saying “Mark my words, govt will have to take back anti-farm laws”.

His tweet has gone viral after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Friday that the three farm laws will be repealed.“I am very, very proud of what our farmers are doing, and I fully support the farmers and I will continue to stand with them. I raised their issues in yatra in Punjab and we will continue to do it. Mark my words, take it from me, these laws... the government will be forced to take them back. Remember what I said,” Rahul Gandhi had said at Madurai Airport on Pongal Day January 14.

But this was not the first time that Rahul Gandhi had predicted the “defeat of the Modi government’s arrogance”.One month later, in February, Rahul launched a scathing attack on the Modi government in Parliament during the Budget Session, saying that the poor, farmers, protesters are not going to move an inch back.“Instead, they will throw you (Modi government) out of power,” said Rahul Gandhi in Parliament taking part in a debate over the farm laws.

Similarly, on October 29, Rahul Gandhi in a tweet said that the Modi government will have to repeal the farm laws after the Delhi Police had to remove barricades from the Gazipur protest site.

Social media and political circle are abuzz with speculation that Rahul Gandhi may have got a tip from government sources. The Congress, however, said that Rahul Gandhi is a visionary leader.

Addressing the nation on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Modi today said that the three farm laws were for the benefit of farmers but “we could not convince a section of farmers despite best efforts”.

The goal of the three farm laws was to empower farmers, especially small farmers, he contended.

It is important to note here that it took the Modi government almost a year to repeal the farm laws after the farmers’ agitation began. Farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and UP had arrived at Delhi’s borders on November 26 last year, demanding the repeal of three farm laws – The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act.

As per an estimate, about 700 people have died during the protests due to various reasons.
