Alka Lamba appointed chief of Congress women wing Featured

  07 January 2024

The Congress on Friday appointed former Delhi MLA Alka Lamba as its women’s wing chief, replacing Netta D’Souza. Lamba was included as a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee some months ago.

A former president of the Delhi University Students’ Union, Lamba quit the Congress and joined AAP in 2014. She became an MLA from Chandni Chowk Assembly constituency in 2015. Lamba, however, returned to the Congress in 2019.

The Congress also appointed former DUSU secretary Varun Choudhary as the president of the party’s students wing NSUI.

Gearing up for Lok Sabha elections, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also set up five screening committees for shortlisting candidates. The party has divided states and UTs into five clusters and appointed a screening committee for each.

The screening committees will be headed by Rajasthan leader Harish Chaudhary, veteran Madhusudan Mistry, Maharashtra leader and Rajya Sabha MP Rajni Patil, Odisha leader Bhakta Charan Das and Punjab leader Rana K P Singh.
