The Supreme Court on Tuesday was told that the antecedent historical data recognising the Muslim character of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) cannot be taken away merely because it has been brought under the statutory regime regulating its administration, curriculum, syllabus and other aspects of its functioning.

A few of the demands made by the students include: Rejecting NEP 2020 and NEET; resisting fee hikes, establishing GSCASH on every campus and so on.

The Supreme Court delivered a blow to the Gujarat government by canceling its order for the early release of 11 convicts in the notorious Bilkis Bano rape case. Opposition parties, including the Congress, AIMIM, Trinamool Congress, and Shiv Sena, welcomed the ruling, accusing the BJP of being anti-women and patronizing criminals.

New Delhi, Jan 8,  The Congress on Monday accused the BJP governments at the Centre and in Gujarat of helping in the premature release of convicts in the Bilkis Bano rape case and said the ruling party should apologise to the women of the country after the Supreme Court sent the convicts back to jail.
